A full cord of firewood is an 4’x4’x8′ (128 cubic ft) stacked pile. We carefully stack our wood into our trucks and trailers to ensure customers get full value.

Our wood selection varies because we harvest from the greater Albuquerque area. A list of woods we have had includes but not limited to, and in no particular order:

Ash, Chinese Elm, Poplar, Sycamore, Chiltalpa, Pine, Pinon, Fruit, Maple, Russian Olive, Cyprus, Mulberry and various rare trees (less of these than others).

Many people ask us if certain woods are hard vs soft. There are 2 ways to classify hard and soft. The first way is based on the seed, grain of wood and leaf. All deciduous trees are considered “hardwoods” and needle trees are consider “softwoods”. There are only 2 exceptions to this rule. However, the Janka Hardness test determines how dense the wood is. This test takes a steel ball and measures how much pressure it takes to embed the ball into a plank of the wood. This hardness is closer to what most mean when they ask me if the wood is “hard”. ¬†More information on this can be found at

What is a “Hardwood”

We do try to mix our cords with varying densities of wood. The density of a wood effects the length it will burn and the ease it will start. The more dense the wood, the harder the start but longer banking overnight. However, banking can be greatly effected by many additional factors. Just to list a few; structure and design of the stove, air flow and cure of the wood.
